Flood of Love 2008

Project Curfman
Flood Damaged Manufactured Home

Description

This project is located in the Grand Mound area in Lewis County. The owner currently is trying to complete all the repairs himself. He is currently unemployed and has yet to receive any financial assistance from FEMA or SBA. They are no longer living in the home. Most of the required demolition has been completed and he is now beginning the rebuilding process.

The project has been slow in progress due to a lack of funds for materials. The owner has been trying to earn money to take care of living expenses and also acquire materials to continue with the repairs. The park owner is going to pay to raise some of the homes and make a minor increase in the monthly space rental. The Curfmans are next in priority to have their home raised.

April 7 update from Bob Duke (Flood of Love project coordinator):
The work on the current project has begun to pick up again. The exterior siding is now at 90%. The interior wiring work is continuing. There is a need for the direction of a licensed electrician so that the interior panel can be installed to code. The home owner is expecting the house to be raised above flood level this week. He has received some funding for the repairs and will now try to resume work on the home.

The urgent needs are for finances and labor in order to continue working. Electrical expertise is needed for interior wiring. Plumbing expertise is needed for kitchen revision, bathrooms, and laundry.

May 3 Update
Enumclaw team coordinator, Dale Murray, reported that a work crew "did some demolition, plumbing and painted the outside of the house. Team members from Enumclaw (19), Shelton (8), and Snoqualmie (1) participated on the Curfman and Bailey projects.

Bob Duke, Flood of Love project coordinator, reported that "95% of all the exterior windows are installed. The exterior has received primer and one coat of paint. The plumbing work was started on the interior and the remaining demolition of the ceilings was completed." He adds that "electrical is still needed; carpentry skills still needed for siding; plumbers to complete interior."
