Twenty-eight WaPac Nazarene churches either sent girls, workers, or both to Girls’ Camp 2007. Camp director, Lisa Roberson (Centralia), was blessed as eighty-seven excited girls and thirty-five capable, volunteer staff packed out Camp Lakeview. The camp theme, God Rocks, led speaker Leanne McKillipp to inspire everyone present to rock their world by living like Christ. Exciting camp activities were punctuated with a late night hike to look at shooting stars and satellites, and a surprise visit by the local fire department for an inspection. When asked about a significant moment of the week, Lisa Roberson commented: “watching the eyes of the girls light up when it clicked for them that they could make a difference and impact the world by how they choose to live.”
Engines were racing as 90 boys entered Camp Lakeview for a week at NazCar (camp theme). Camp director, David Mowry (Puyallup), and 33 volunteer staffers kept the races going with remote control vehicles, tricycles, foot races, water sports and hand crafted pinewood derby cars. Jeff Austin (Real Life Community) had the attention of campers and staffers alike as he presented biblical truth with clarity, humor and insight that spoke to current-day needs of boys growing up in our society. The “fear smashing” took on special meaning as boys were encouraged to share personal fears with their group and to realize that God is powerful enough to take care of any of their needs….then to have their fears smashed….literally!
