In 1904, Dr. H. D. Brown began work to establish the Church of the Nazarene in Seattle. These efforts continued until the church was officially organized in 1907 under the leadership of Rev. Joseph McIntyre. Mark Woodward (Christa) has served at Seattle First as pastor since October 2003.
The centennial celebration took place the weekend of October 13-14. Saturday evening festivities included a banquet, reminiscing with former pastors and a dessert social in Mosaic. Dr. Ron Benefiel, Nazarene Theological Seminary President, was the featured speaker during the Sunday morning celebration. Former pastors of Seattle First Church who participated in the event were Jerry Beers, Brent Cobb, Don Moore, and Jim Tharp. Pastors Mark Woodward and Tim Smith of Seattle First Church, and Joshua Lee of GSBMI updated the congregation on current activities and ministries along with hopes and dreams for the future of the church. Scott Erickson, a local artist, painted a commemorative tableau during the first part of the service and the Washington Scottish Pipe Band filled the sanctuary with colorful sound.
